With June and Pride Month in full swing, we wanted to take a moment to highlight a few fantastic Envoy employees who are a part of the LGBTQIA+ community and contribute to our airline’s success in various ways. Let’s meet with Eric Tuzin who is an Analyst on our Technical Services & Publications team.
What is your Envoy story?
I just celebrated one year as the Reliability Technical Analyst with Envoy this month. I work alongside the Engineers and Fleet Manager in the Tech Services department to identify and report on trends found in maintenance data so that our airline runs as reliably as possible on the mechanical side of things.
What is the significance of Pride month to you?
Before I came to terms with being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, Pride opened my eyes to the fact that there were tons of other people in a similar situation to me and allowed me a glimpse into what life might be like outside of the proverbial closet.
I hope it can be the same for others on the same path as well. Now, Pride is significant to me because it is a celebration of who we are as humans and how far our community has come.
More than that, though, it is a reminder of those that fought and lost their lives for our rights before us, and that there is still plenty of work to be done.
How do you like to celebrate during Pride month?
My fiancée and I hang up our Progress Pride flag and we will go out to the parades and festivals. I also make it a point to patronize LGBTQIA+-owned businesses throughout the year, but especially in June!
My favorite coffee shop is Union in the Oak Lawn neighborhood of Dallas, and they always host a ton of Pride events every year as well.
What advice do you have for young LGBTQIA+-identifying individuals interested in a career in the aviation industry?
Just be yourself and try your best. If you are good at what you do, no one can say anything.
Seek out others in your field and join a professional organization! At Envoy, we have the Culture, Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Committee (CDIAC) and access to the American Airlines Pride business resource group, plus Envoy sponsors many National Gay Pilot Association (NGPA) events throughout the country.
Favorite non-rev trip and why?
In August, we flew up to Anchorage, AK for a quick weekend. We went out to Seward and did some whale watching and glacier spotting at Kenai Fjords National Park.
Then, I proposed to my partner of three years at Flattop Mountain just outside of town, and he said yes!
